What is Shopify?
Shopify is a hosted e-commerce platform for online stores.
Signs a site uses Shopify
- cdn.shopify.com in image and script addresses. Shopify serves store files from this domain.
- A Shopify.theme object in the page code. Storefront themes usually define it in an inline script.
- x-shopid or x-shopify-stage response headers. Shopify’s servers add these to the pages they send.
How to check by hand
View the page source and search for shopify. You can also add /admin to the store’s address, because Shopify stores usually redirect to a Shopify login page.
What can hide it
A headless store that uses Shopify only for checkout can show few signs on its main pages. Try the cart or checkout page instead. A negative result doesn’t prove a site isn’t using Shopify, because the checker reads the page source and response headers, and tools loaded later by JavaScript may be missed.
