ULID & Nano ID Generator — Sortable and Short Unique IDs

Generate ULIDs — 26-character IDs that sort by creation time — or Nano IDs, short URL-friendly IDs with the alphabet and length you choose. Make one or a thousand at once, decode a ULID’s timestamp, and see how long it would take before two Nano IDs collide. Everything uses your browser’s secure random generator.

Cómo usar: ULID & Nano ID Generator

  1. Choose ULID for IDs that sort by time (great as database keys), or Nano ID for short, random, URL-friendly IDs.
  2. Set how many to generate — up to 1,000. For ULIDs keep monotonic on so IDs made in the same millisecond still sort in order.
  3. For Nano IDs pick the length and alphabet (or type your own) and an optional prefix like usr_; the collision risk panel shows if it is long enough.
  4. Copy or download the list. Paste a ULID into Decode to see when it was created.

ULID vs Nano ID vs UUID

URL-safeYes (Crockford Base32)YesYes, but long

A ULID starts with a 10-character timestamp (milliseconds since 1970) followed by 16 random characters, in Crockford’s Base32 alphabet — no I, L, O or U, so it is hard to misread. Because the time comes first, ULIDs sort in creation order, which keeps database indexes compact. A Nano ID is pure randomness: with the default 21 URL-safe characters you would need to create a billion IDs every second for about 40 years before there is a 1% chance of a single duplicate.

Both are generated with crypto.getRandomValues, without the bias of Math.random() or modulo tricks. Need standard UUIDs? Use the UUID Generator.

Preguntas frecuentes

What is a ULID?
A Universally Unique Lexicographically Sortable Identifier: 26 characters, 48 bits of millisecond timestamp plus 80 random bits, encoded in Crockford Base32. ULIDs sort by creation time, unlike UUID v4.
How short can a Nano ID be?
It depends on how many you create. Enter your rate in the collision panel: it shows how long until there is a 1% chance of a duplicate. For public IDs created often, keep 16 characters or more.
Can I get the date from a ULID?
Yes — paste it into Decode a ULID. The first 10 characters are the creation time in milliseconds, shown as a date in your time zone and in UTC.
What does monotonic mean?
When several ULIDs are made in the same millisecond, monotonic mode increments the random part instead of drawing a new one, so they still sort in the exact order they were created.
