What is Ghost?

Ghost is an open-source publishing platform for blogs and newsletters.

Signs a site uses Ghost

  • A generator tag naming Ghost. Ghost includes it with the version number by default.
  • /ghost/api/ or ghost-portal scripts. The membership features load from these addresses.
  • content/images in image addresses. Ghost stores uploaded images under this folder.

How to check by hand

View the page source and search for ghost. You can also try opening /ghost on the domain, which leads to the admin login.

What can hide it

A theme can remove the generator tag, and a headless setup may show only the content API. A negative result doesn’t prove a site isn’t using Ghost, because the checker reads the page source and response headers, and tools loaded later by JavaScript may be missed.

Check the rest of the stack

Paste the address into the Website Technology Checker to see the platform, framework, analytics and more in one report. To see where the site runs, use Who Is Hosting.

Website Technology CheckerFind out what any site runs on: CMS (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Ghost, Webflow, Wix, Shopify), forum software (vBulletin, XenForo, phpBB, Discourse), frameworks (Next.js, Nuxt, React, Vue), server and CDN, analytics and more — with versions when the site shows them.
