What is Magento?
Magento is an e-commerce platform for larger stores, now also sold as Adobe Commerce.
Signs a site uses Magento
- /static/version…/frontend/ in file addresses. Magento 2 usually serves theme files from a versioned path like this.
- Mage references in the page code. Scripts and cookies often use the Mage name.
- A form_key field or cookie. Magento uses these to protect forms.
How to check by hand
View the source of a product page and search for mage or /frontend/.
What can hide it
Headless storefronts built with PWA Studio or Hyvä can look different, so check the checkout pages as well. A negative result doesn’t prove a site isn’t using Magento, because the checker reads the page source and response headers, and tools loaded later by JavaScript may be missed.
Check the rest of the stack
Paste the address into the Website Technology Checker to see the platform, framework, analytics and more in one report. To see where the site runs, use Who Is Hosting.
