What is a case converter?

A case converter rewrites the capitalisation and word separators of a piece of text. Writers use it to fix text typed with Caps Lock on or to format headlines; developers use it to turn a phrase like user profile id into an identifier such as userProfileId or USER_PROFILE_ID.

Supported cases

CaseExampleTypical use
Sentence caseThe quick brown foxBody text, UI labels
Title CaseThe Quick Brown FoxHeadlines, page titles
camelCasetheQuickBrownFoxJavaScript variables & functions
PascalCaseTheQuickBrownFoxClasses, React components
snake_casethe_quick_brown_foxPython, database columns
kebab-casethe-quick-brown-foxURLs, CSS classes, file names
CONSTANT_CASETHE_QUICK_BROWN_FOXConstants, environment variables

How word boundaries are detected

For the programming cases the converter splits text on spaces, hyphens, underscores and dots, and also on transitions inside existing identifiers — so XMLHttpRequest becomes xml_http_request and user-id becomes userId. Title Case keeps short words such as “and”, “of” and “the” lowercase unless they start the title.

Tools that pair well with the Case Converter

  • Word Counter — Paste or type your text to count words and characters live — plus reading and speaking time, keyword density and length checks for SEO titles, meta descriptions and social posts.
  • Lorem Ipsum Generator — Create placeholder text for mock-ups and layouts in seconds — classic Lorem Ipsum or readable English filler, as paragraphs, sentences, words or list items, with or without HTML tags.
  • Soft Hyphen Generator — Stop long words like “Versicherungsleistungen” from overflowing on mobile: insert invisible soft hyphens automatically or at your own break points, then copy the result.
  • Smart Quotes to Straight Quotes — Code copied from Slack, Notion, Word or a blog won’t run?

Frequently asked questions

Is my text sent to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript, so your text never leaves your device.
What is the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?
Both join words without spaces and capitalise each word, but camelCase starts with a lowercase letter (userName) while PascalCase starts with an uppercase letter (UserName).
Which case should I use for URLs?
Use lowercase kebab-case for URL slugs, e.g. /best-running-shoes. Google treats hyphens as word separators, and lowercase avoids duplicate URLs. Our Slug Generator also removes accents and special characters.
Does Title Case follow AP or Chicago style?
It uses a common simplified rule: capitalise every word except short articles, conjunctions and prepositions (a, an, the, and, but, or, for, of, on, in, to…) unless they are the first or last word.
