How to use the Markdown to Webflow Rich Text
- Paste Markdown — for example an article drafted in ChatGPT, Claude, Notion or a GitHub README — or drop a
.mdfile. - Check the preview and options: the first H1 is removed by default because Webflow usually outputs the page or CMS item name as the H1.
- Click Copy rich text (or press Ctrl/⌘+Enter).
- In Webflow, click inside a Rich Text element (on the canvas or in a CMS item’s rich text field) and paste.
Why convert Markdown before pasting into Webflow?
AI writing tools, Notion and developer docs all produce Markdown — ## Heading, **bold**, - list item. Webflow’s Rich Text element doesn’t understand Markdown syntax, so pasting it directly leaves you with literal hashes and asterisks to clean up by hand. This tool renders the Markdown to HTML and puts it on your clipboard as formatted text, the same way copying from a web page does, so Webflow receives real headings, lists and links.
What carries over to Webflow
| Markdown | In Webflow Rich Text |
|---|---|
# – ###### headings | H1–H6 (first H1 removed by default) |
Paragraphs, **bold**, *italic* | Paragraphs, bold, italic |
[text](url) | Links (optionally opening in a new tab) |
- and 1. lists | Bulleted and numbered lists |
> quotes | Block quotes |
| Tables, code blocks, images | Need extra steps — see the notes panel |
Heading hierarchy and SEO
Each page should have one H1. On Webflow CMS templates the item name is usually already the H1, so an extra H1 inside the body creates duplicate H1s — check any page with the Heading Checker. “Demote headings” shifts every heading down one level if your draft starts at H2 for sections but you need H3.
Importing many articles
For bulk imports, use the HTML output: Webflow’s CMS CSV import and the Webflow API accept HTML for Rich Text fields. Migrating a whole blog? The Markdown to HTML tool gives full HTML documents and options.
Tools that pair well with the Markdown to Webflow Rich Text
- Word Counter — Paste or type your text to count words and characters live — plus reading and speaking time, keyword density and length checks for SEO titles, meta descriptions and social posts.
- HTML & CSS to Webflow — Paste HTML and its CSS, click Copy to Webflow and paste into the Designer — you get real Div Blocks, Headings, Links, Images and Lists with classes, combo classes, tablet/mobile breakpoints and hover states instead of one big Code Embed.
- Class Name Generator — Describe a section in plain words — “hero with tagline, heading, two buttons and an image on the right” — and get a consistent class structure in Client-First, BEM or simple kebab-case, ready to copy into Webflow as elements.
- Class Name Typo Checker — Paste HTML or enter a URL to audit every class name: catch typos like hero_heding, duplicates spelled differently (hero-title vs hero_title), auto-named Webflow classes like div-block-12, and Client-First or BEM rule breaks.
