Bold & Italic Text Generator for LinkedIn and Instagram

LinkedIn, Instagram and X don’t have a bold button — but Unicode does. Type your text and copy 𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗱, 𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤, 𝚖𝚘𝚗𝚘𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚌𝚎 and more styles that paste into any post or profile.

Accessibility: screen readers may read Unicode styled letters one by one or skip them, and they aren’t found by search. Use them for a few words of emphasis, not whole sentences, hashtags or names.

Your data never leaves your computer. All processing happens 100% locally in your browser.

How to use the Bold Text Generator

  1. Type or paste the words you want to emphasise.
  2. Pick a style — bold, italic, bold italic, monospace, script, double-struck, small caps, underline or strikethrough — and click Copy.
  3. Paste it into your LinkedIn post, Instagram caption or bio, X post or Facebook update.
  4. To undo styling, paste styled text into the box: the plain version appears underneath.

How “bold text” works on social media

Social networks only accept plain text in posts — there is no formatting. The trick is that Unicode includes complete alphabets of mathematical letters in bold, italic, script, monospace and other styles (originally for formulas, like 𝐀 or 𝑥). They are separate characters, not formatting, so they survive copy and paste into LinkedIn, Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp and Slack. Underline and strikethrough use combining characters placed after each letter.

Use it carefully

  • Accessibility: screen readers often read these letters individually (“mathematical bold capital H…”) or skip them. Keep styled text to a few words and never style essential information.
  • Search: styled words aren’t matched by platform search or hashtags. Leave keywords, names and hashtags in plain text.
  • Coverage: only A–Z, a–z and (for some styles) 0–9 have styled versions — accented letters such as ä or é stay unchanged.
  • Fonts: rare styles may show as boxes on older devices; bold sans and italic sans are the most widely supported.

Writing better posts

Emphasis works best on the hook in the first line — before LinkedIn’s or Instagram’s “…see more”. Check where that cut-off falls with the Social Media Character Counter, and keep line breaks deliberate. For headings in Markdown or HTML (blogs, READMEs, Webflow rich text) use real formatting instead — see Markdown to Webflow Rich Text. To change capitalisation rather than style, use the Case Converter.

Tools that pair well with the Bold Text Generator

  • Smart Quotes to Straight Quotes — Code copied from Slack, Notion, Word or a blog won’t run?
  • Word Counter — Paste or type your text to count words and characters live — plus reading and speaking time, keyword density and length checks for SEO titles, meta descriptions and social posts.
  • Social Share Link Generator — Build “share this” links for 12 networks without plugins or tracking scripts — copy single links, the HTML for share buttons, or a tiny script that shares the current page on any Webflow CMS template.

Frequently asked questions

Does bold text work on LinkedIn?
Yes — Unicode bold and italic characters display in LinkedIn posts, comments, headlines and the About section. LinkedIn has no built-in bold button for posts.
Will bold text hurt my reach?
There’s no evidence that platforms penalise it, but styled words aren’t searchable and can be hard for screen-reader users. Use it for a few words of emphasis only.
Why do some letters not change?
Unicode only has styled versions of the basic Latin letters A–Z and a–z (and digits for some styles). Accented letters, umlauts and most symbols stay as they are.
How do I remove the formatting again?
Paste the styled text into the input — the “Back to plain text” box converts it to normal letters using Unicode normalization.
