How to use the WhatsApp Link Generator
- Enter your WhatsApp number in international format — country code first, without the leading 0 (for example
+49 151 23456789for a German mobile number). - Write the message that should appear in the chat box, or pick a template.
- Copy the
wa.melink, test it, or download the QR code for flyers, business cards and packaging. - Use the button HTML on your website, or paste the link into a Webflow button’s link settings.
How wa.me links work
WhatsApp’s official click-to-chat format is https://wa.me/<number>?text=<message>. On a phone it opens WhatsApp directly with a chat to that number and your message ready to send; on a computer it opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app. The number must be in full international format with digits only — no plus sign, spaces, brackets or leading zero. The generator cleans this up for you, and URL-encodes the message so line breaks, emoji and umlauts survive.
Where to use it
- Website contact buttons — a “Chat on WhatsApp” button often converts better than a form on mobile.
- Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn bios — one tap to start a conversation.
- Print — the QR code on flyers, menus, packaging or shop windows.
- Email signatures and ads — with a pre-filled message per campaign, you can see where a chat came from.
Pre-filled messages that work
Keep the message short and specific, and include context only the link can know: “Hi, I’m interested in the spring offer from your website.” Different messages per page or campaign tell you which source brought the chat — similar to UTM parameters for links. To let visitors share a page via WhatsApp instead (without a phone number), use the Social Share Link Generator.
Adding it in Webflow
Select a Button or Link Block, choose URL in the link settings and paste the wa.me link; tick “Open in new tab”. For a floating chat button, give the link block a fixed position in the bottom corner. Larger QR codes for print can also be made with the QR Code Generator.
Tools that pair well with the WhatsApp Link Generator
- Social Media Character Counter — Write once and see instantly whether your post fits 14 platform limits — including X’s weighted counting for links and emoji, and where LinkedIn and Instagram cut text off behind “…see more”.
- URL Encode / Decode — Percent-encode text for safe use in URLs, decode encoded strings back to readable text, and break any URL down into its parts and query parameters.
- Bold Text Generator — LinkedIn, Instagram and X don’t have a bold button — but Unicode does.
