Domain Availability Checker — Is My Domain Name Taken?

Type a name to see at once whether it is free as .com, .net, .org, .io, .dev, .app, .ai and 7 more endings — or paste up to 20 domains to check in bulk. Each answer comes from the domain’s registry (RDAP), double-checked with DNS.

Runs on our serverUpdated

This tool fetches the public URL you enter from our server. Results are held in temporary memory for a few minutes and never stored in a database.

How to use the Domain Availability Checker

  1. Type a name without an ending (for example mybrand) to check 14 popular endings, or enter full domains separated by commas or spaces.
  2. Click Check. Each domain is looked up in its registry’s RDAP service and confirmed with DNS.
  3. Available names are listed first. Taken names show their registration and expiry dates, with a link to the full WHOIS.
  4. Register the name you like with any registrar — availability can change at any moment.

How the check works

Every domain ending (TLD) is run by a registry that keeps the list of registered names. Most registries publish it through RDAP, the modern replacement for WHOIS. If the registry has a record, the name is taken. Some registries (including .io, .co and .me) don’t offer RDAP yet, so the tool also asks DNS: a registered domain almost always has nameservers, while an unregistered one returns “no such domain” (NXDOMAIN).

ResultMeaning
AvailableNeither the registry nor DNS knows the name.
Probably availableDNS has no record, but the registry couldn’t be asked directly. Very likely free.
TakenThe registry has a record or the domain has nameservers. Check its expiry date in the WHOIS.

Good to know

  • Premium and reserved names can show as available but cost more, or not be sold at all.
  • Expired domains go through grace and redemption periods (often 30–75 days) before they become available again.
  • This tool doesn’t sell domains and never shares your searches, so nobody can front-run the names you look up.

  • Website Technology Checker — Find out what any site runs on: CMS (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Ghost, Webflow, Wix, Shopify), forum software (vBulletin, XenForo, phpBB, Discourse), frameworks (Next.js, Nuxt, React, Vue), server and CDN, analytics and more — with versions when the site shows them.
  • DNS Propagation Checker — Changed DNS or moved a site to Webflow?
  • MIME Type Lookup — Search 200+ file extensions and MIME types — .webp, .woff2, .webmanifest, application/wasm … — or drop a file to detect its real type from its first bytes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if a domain name is available?
Type the name without an ending (for example mybrand) and click Check. The tool tests 14 popular endings at once and lists the free ones first.
Is this domain checker accurate?
Answers come from the registries themselves (RDAP) and are confirmed with DNS. Availability can still change between your search and your purchase, and premium names may cost extra.
Can I check many domains at once?
Yes — paste up to 20 full domains separated by commas, spaces or new lines.
Do you register domains or sell my searches?
No. devpack doesn’t sell domains, doesn’t store your searches and doesn’t share them with registrars.
