How to use the Image Converter
- Drop images on the box or click it to choose files — mixed formats are fine.
- Choose the output format: JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF.
- Set the quality for lossy formats, a background color for JPG and an optional maximum width.
- Download each converted image, or all of them as a ZIP.
Which image format should you use?
| Format | Compression | Transparency | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | lossy | No | photographs and images with smooth gradients |
| PNG | lossless | Yes | screenshots, logos, icons, UI graphics and anything with text or sharp edges |
| WebP | lossy and lossless | Yes | web images of every kind — photos, graphics and transparent images |
| AVIF | lossy and lossless | Yes | high-quality web photos where every kilobyte counts, including HDR |
| SVG | vector (XML) | Yes | logos, icons and illustrations that must stay sharp at any size |
For websites, WebP is the best default today: it is supported by every current browser, handles both photos and transparent graphics, and is much smaller than JPG and PNG. AVIF compresses even better but encodes slowly and is less supported outside browsers. Use JPG or PNG when a file has to work in any software, print service or email.
How the converter works
Your browser decodes the image, draws it on an HTML canvas at the size you choose and re-encodes it in the target format. No server is involved, so conversion is fast and private, and there is no limit on the number of files. Output formats your browser cannot create (AVIF in some browsers) are disabled automatically.

Metadata and color
Re-encoding through a canvas removes EXIF metadata such as camera details and GPS location — a privacy bonus when sharing photos. Orientation from EXIF is applied before conversion, so portrait photos stay upright. Images are converted in the sRGB color space; wide-gamut and HDR information is not preserved.
To reduce file size without changing the format, use the image compressor.
