How to use the PNG to WebP Converter

  1. Drop one or more PNG files on the box, or click it to choose them.

Why convert PNG to WebP?

WebP supports transparency like PNG, but compresses far better. Lossy WebP is typically 60–80 % smaller than an equivalent PNG for photos and complex graphics, and lossless WebP is usually around 25 % smaller than PNG. That makes PNG to WebP one of the easiest ways to improve page speed and Largest Contentful Paint.

Transparency

Both formats support an alpha channel, so transparent areas are kept. Tick Flatten transparency if you want a solid background instead.

Choosing the quality

WebP is lossy, and the quality slider controls the trade-off. 80–90 % is visually indistinguishable from the original for most photos; 60–75 % is fine for thumbnails and backgrounds; above 92 % file size grows quickly for little visible gain. The table shows the before and after size for every file, so you can adjust and compare instantly.

Private, batch conversion

Conversion uses your browser’s own image decoder and the HTML canvas, so files are never uploaded — useful for personal photos, client work and screenshots with sensitive data. Drop as many files as you like, then download them one by one or all together as a ZIP. You can also set a maximum width to resize large images while converting. Need smaller files without changing the format? Use the image compressor; to change dimensions only, use the image resizer.
