Website Technology Checker — What Is This Site Built With?

Find out what any site runs on: CMS (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Ghost, Webflow, Wix, Shopify), forum software (vBulletin, XenForo, phpBB, Discourse), frameworks (Next.js, Nuxt, React, Vue), server and CDN, analytics and more — with versions when the site shows them.

Runs on our serverUpdated

This tool fetches the public URL you enter from our server. Results are held in temporary memory for a few minutes and never stored in a database.

How to use the Website Technology Checker

  1. Enter a website address, for example example.com.
  2. Click Detect. The tool loads the page like a browser and reads its source, headers, cookies and generator tag.
  3. Over 100 signatures are matched: CMS, forum software, e-commerce, frameworks, servers, CDNs, analytics, fonts and widgets.
  4. Each result shows where it was found (page source, header, cookie or generator tag) and a version when available.

How detection works

Most platforms leave fingerprints: a <meta name="generator"> tag (WordPress, Drupal, vBulletin), typical file paths (/wp-content/, /_next/), cookies (xf_session for XenForo, bbsessionhash for vBulletin) or response headers (x-vercel-id, cf-ray). The tool lists which clue it matched, so you can judge each result.

Limits: sites can hide or remove these clues, and tools loaded later by JavaScript may not appear. Sites behind strict bot protection can’t be checked. For marketing and tracking tags in depth, use the tracking tag checker; for the hosting company, Who Is Hosting.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a website uses WordPress?
Enter the URL and click Detect. WordPress sites load files from /wp-content/ or /wp-includes/ and often have a WordPress generator tag; the tool also shows the version when it is visible.
Can it detect forum software like vBulletin or XenForo?
Yes. It recognises vBulletin, XenForo, phpBB, Discourse, MyBB, Invision Community, Simple Machines Forum and MediaWiki from their generator tags, scripts and cookies.
Why is a technology missing?
Some sites remove generator tags or load tools later with JavaScript, which this check doesn’t run. Bot protection can also block the request.
Is it free?
Yes — free, with no sign-up. Only the page you enter is fetched.
