How to use the Driver’s License Scanner

  1. Lay the license on a dark, plain surface and photograph the front from straight above — or tap Choose front photo.
  2. Turn it over and add the back the same way (it often has the barcode or magnetic stripe).
  3. Drag the four dots onto each card’s corners; the tool straightens both sides and places them on one page at 85.6 × 54 mm.
  4. Pick a Max file size if a form limits uploads, add a watermark if you like, then Download PDF, Download JPG or Print.

Who asks for a copy of your license

Car rental companies, employers (for driving jobs and I-9 identity checks), insurers, landlords and DMV or license offices often ask for a copy of your driver’s license — usually front and back on one page. The back matters: it carries the barcode or magnetic stripe, endorsements and restrictions.

Getting a clean scan

  • Surface: a dark, plain table makes the card’s edges easy to find, and the corners are placed for you.
  • Glare: licenses have a glossy security layer. Turn off the flash and tilt the card slightly away from bright lights so the photo and text are readable.
  • Size: driver’s licenses use the standard card size (85.6 × 54 mm, ID-1). At “Real size” the copy prints exactly as big as the card — print at 100% / “Actual size”.

Privacy

Everything runs in your browser: the photos are never uploaded or stored. Before sending a copy, add a watermark like “Copy for ACME Rentals — 2026-10-28” so it can’t be reused elsewhere.

Frequently asked questions

How do I scan both sides of my driver’s license on one page?
Add a photo of the front and one of the back, drag the corners onto each card, then download the PDF or JPG — both sides appear on one A4 or Letter page.
Will the copy be the same size as my license?
Yes. At “Real size” each side is placed at 85.6 × 54 mm, the standard license size. Print at 100% / “Actual size”, not “Fit to page”.
Can I email or upload the scan?
Yes. Download it as PDF or JPG; choose a Max file size (for example 1 MB) if the form or mail server has a limit.
Is my license uploaded anywhere?
No. The scanner works entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded or saved.
Can I install Driver’s License Scanner as a web app and use it offline?
Yes. Driver’s License Scanner is an installable web app (PWA) — installed from your browser, not downloaded from an app store. Click Install app at the top of this page in Chrome or Edge (Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS) or on Android, use Share → Add to Home Screen on iPhone and iPad, or File → Add to Dock in Safari 17+ on a Mac. It then opens in its own window with its own icon, and because it runs entirely in your browser it keeps working offline. Firefox on desktop can’t install web apps. How installing works.
