How to use the ID Card Scanner

  1. Click Choose front photo (or Take a photo on your phone) and add a picture of the front of the card. Do the same for the back.
  2. Drag the four dots onto the corners of the card. The tool straightens the photo into a flat, rectangular scan.
  3. Pick the card size, A4 or US Letter, and a look — Color, Scan (brighter, sharper), Gray or B&W. Add a watermark if you send the copy to a company.
  4. Click Download PDF, Download JPG or Print. Uploading to a form with a size limit? Pick a Max file size (for example 1 MB or 200 KB) first.

Why put both sides on one page?

Banks, landlords, employers, car rentals and government offices often ask for a copy of an ID “front and back on one page”. Doing it with a photocopier means copying one side, flipping the card and copying again on the same sheet. This tool does it from two phone photos: it straightens each side (perspective correction, like a scanner app), places both on one page at the card’s real size, and gives you a print-ready PDF.

Works for every ID document

  • National ID cards and residence permits — scan the front and back for banks, landlords, employers and government forms.
  • Driver’s licenses — front and back on one page for car rentals, insurers, employers and DMV forms. See the Driver’s License Scanner.
  • Passports — scan the passport photo page (and a second page if asked) for visa applications and travel bookings with the Passport Scanner.
  • Bank, health insurance and student cards — anything in the standard credit-card size.

Whatever the document, you can scan it with your phone camera or upload a photo, straighten it, and save the scan as PDF or JPG — under a size limit if an upload form needs it.

Card sizes

FormatSizeUsed for
ID-185.6 × 54 mmNational ID cards, driver’s licenses, residence permits, bank and health insurance cards
ID-2105 × 74 mmSome older ID cards and visas
ID-3125 × 88 mmPassport photo pages

Print with your printer’s “Actual size” / 100% setting (not “Fit to page”) so the cards come out at their true size.

Privacy

An ID is one of the most sensitive things you can scan. Everything here — loading the photos, straightening, the page and the PDF — runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is saved; close the tab and it is gone. Before sending a copy, consider a watermark naming who it is for and the date, so a leaked copy can’t be reused, and only share it with organizations that really need it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I scan both sides of an ID card on one page?
Add a photo of the front and one of the back, drag the corners onto the card edges so each side is straightened, then click Download PDF or Print. Both sides appear on one A4 or Letter page.
Will the copy be the same size as the real card?
Yes. At “Real size” the cards are placed at 85.6 × 54 mm (the standard ID card size). Print at 100% / “Actual size”, not “Fit to page”.
Is it safe to scan my ID here?
Your photos are processed only in your browser — they are never uploaded or stored. Add a watermark with the recipient and date before sending a copy.
Can I use my phone camera?
Yes. Tap “Take a photo” on your phone to open the camera, or pick a picture you already took. Lay the card on a dark surface and avoid glare for the best result.
How do I make the ID copy smaller than 1 MB or 200 KB?
Choose a Max file size before downloading. The tool lowers the image quality — and only if needed the resolution — until the PDF or JPG fits, and shows the final size. Text on the card stays readable down to about 100 KB.
Does it work for driver’s licenses and passports?
Yes — driver’s licenses and most ID, residence and bank cards use the ID-1 size; choose “Passport page” for the photo page of a passport.
Can I install ID Card Scanner as a web app and use it offline?
Yes. ID Card Scanner is an installable web app (PWA) — installed from your browser, not downloaded from an app store. Click Install app at the top of this page in Chrome or Edge (Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS) or on Android, use Share → Add to Home Screen on iPhone and iPad, or File → Add to Dock in Safari 17+ on a Mac. It then opens in its own window with its own icon, and because it runs entirely in your browser it keeps working offline. Firefox on desktop can’t install web apps. How installing works.
