How to use the Text Compare
- Paste the original text on the left and the changed text on the right.
- Read the differences: removed text is red, added text is green, and changed words are marked inside each line.
- Switch between side-by-side and inline view, and ignore case or whitespace if they don’t matter.
Compare versions of anything
Text Compare finds the differences between two versions of a contract, an essay, a configuration file, a translation or a list. It compares line by line first, then highlights the exact words and characters that changed inside each modified line, so a single changed number in a long paragraph stands out.
Ignore what doesn’t matter
Turn on ignore whitespace when one version was re-indented or re-wrapped, and ignore case when capitalisation doesn’t matter. “Only differences” hides unchanged lines so you can focus on what changed in long documents.
Comparing lists
To see which items appear in one list but not the other, sort both lists first (the Alphabetize List tool does it in one click), then compare: removed and added lines show the differences between the two sets.
