How to use the EXIF Viewer & Remover

  1. Drop one or more photos (JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF or AVIF).
  2. Read the summary — camera, settings, date taken and a map link if the photo contains GPS coordinates.
  3. Expand each group to see every tag: EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC and ICC.
  4. Click Download without metadata for one photo, or remove it from all photos at once as a ZIP.

What is EXIF data?

Cameras and phones write EXIF metadata into every photo: the device make and model, lens, exposure settings, the date and time — and, if location services are on, the GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken. Editing apps add XMP (edit history, ratings, keywords) and agencies use IPTC (captions, copyright, creator).

Why remove metadata before sharing?

A photo of your new car, your kids in the garden or an item you are selling online can reveal your home address to the nearest metre. Many social networks strip GPS data on upload, but email, messaging apps, cloud links, forums, marketplaces and your own website often don’t. Removing metadata also hides the device you use and the software you edited with.

How the remover works

FormatMethodImage quality
JPGEXIF, XMP, IPTC and comment segments are cut out of the fileUnchanged — no re-compression
PNGText, iTXt, zTXt, eXIf and time chunks are removedUnchanged
WebPEXIF and XMP chunks are removed and the header updatedUnchanged
HEIC, TIFF, AVIFRe-encoded to JPG without metadataHigh-quality JPG (95)

Colour profiles (ICC) are kept so colours look the same. If a JPG relies on an EXIF orientation tag, it is re-encoded the right way up instead, so the clean copy doesn’t appear sideways. Convert iPhone photos with HEIC to JPG and add a watermark before posting.

Private by design

Your images are processed entirely in your browser with the Canvas API — nothing is uploaded, so personal photos, screenshots and client work never leave your device. There are no watermarks, sign-ups or file limits beyond your device’s memory.

Tools that pair well with the EXIF Viewer & Remover

  • Rotate & Flip Image — Rotate photos by 90° or by any angle to straighten a horizon, and mirror them horizontally or vertically.
  • Image Converter — Convert any image your browser can open — PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP or SVG — into PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF, one file or hundreds at a time.
  • Image Resizer — Resize a photo to exact pixel dimensions or a percentage, crop it to fill a social-media size, or fit it inside a frame with a background colour — all locally in your browser.
  • Image to Base64 — Turn a PNG, JPEG, SVG, WebP or GIF into a Base64 data URI with copy-ready CSS and HTML — or paste a Base64 string to preview and download the image.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser; the files never leave your device.
Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?
Not for JPG, PNG and WebP — the metadata blocks are cut out of the file and the image data is untouched. HEIC, TIFF and AVIF are converted to a high-quality JPG.
How do I see where a photo was taken?
If the photo contains GPS coordinates, the summary shows them with a link to OpenStreetMap. No coordinates usually means location services were off or the metadata was already removed.
Do Instagram and Facebook remove EXIF data?
Most large social networks strip GPS data from public images, but email, messengers, cloud-sharing links, forums and marketplaces often keep it. Remove it yourself to be safe.
