The HEIC decoder (3 MB) loads the first time you add a photo. Safari can decode HEIC natively and skips the download.

Your data never leaves your computer. All processing happens 100% locally in your browser.

How to use the HEIC to PNG

  1. Drop your HEIC photos on the box, or click to choose them.
  2. PNG is preselected — switch to JPG or WebP for smaller files.
  3. Download each file or all of them as a ZIP.

What is a HEIC file?

Since iOS 11, iPhones and iPads save photos as HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container), which uses the HEVC video codec to store images about half the size of an equivalent JPG. The catch: Windows without extensions, most Android apps, many websites, upload forms and older editors can’t open HEIC. Converting to PNG makes the photo work everywhere.

JPG, PNG or WebP?

FormatBest forFile size
JPGPhotos for sharing, email, upload formsSmall — quality 85–90 looks identical to the original
PNGScreenshots, graphics, when you need lossless pixelsLarge for photos (often 3–5× the JPG)
WebPWebsites and appsSmallest at the same quality

Live Photos, bursts and depth

A HEIC file can contain several images (bursts, depth maps, Live Photo stills). The converter exports the primary image — the one you see in the Photos app. To stop your iPhone creating HEIC files, go to Settings › Camera › Formats and choose Most Compatible.

Shrink the result further with the image compressor, resize it with the image resizer, or check and remove location data with the EXIF viewer & remover.

Private by design

Your images are processed entirely in your browser with the Canvas API — nothing is uploaded, so personal photos, screenshots and client work never leave your device. There are no watermarks, sign-ups or file limits beyond your device’s memory.

Tools that pair well with the HEIC to PNG

  • PNG to JPG Converter — Turn large PNG images into compact JPG files — one or hundreds at a time — with control over quality and the color that replaces transparency.
  • Image Converter — Convert any image your browser can open — PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP or SVG — into PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF, one file or hundreds at a time.
  • Image to Base64 — Turn a PNG, JPEG, SVG, WebP or GIF into a Base64 data URI with copy-ready CSS and HTML — or paste a Base64 string to preview and download the image.
  • Favicon Generator — Make a complete favicon package from a logo, a letter or an emoji: a multi-size favicon.ico, Apple touch icon, Android/PWA icons, a Webflow webclip, the web manifest and the HTML tags to paste.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser; the files never leave your device.
Is the photo metadata kept?
No — the converted file contains only the pixels, so camera details and GPS location are removed. That makes the output safer to share. The photo is still rotated correctly.
Why does the first conversion take longer?
Most browsers can’t decode HEIC, so a 3 MB decoder (libheif compiled to WebAssembly) is downloaded once. Safari decodes HEIC itself and doesn’t need it.
Can I convert many photos at once?
Yes. Drop a whole selection; each photo is converted in turn and you can download them individually or as one ZIP file.
