How to use the Select Menu Generator
- Choose a list: countries, US states, Canadian provinces, languages, currencies, time zones, phone codes, months, weekdays, years, a number range or your own options.
- Set the label (for example flag + name), the option value (an ISO code is best for forms), the order, the label language and optional groups.
- Add a placeholder, a pre-selected value,
nameandid, and choose required or a searchable datalist. - Pick the output — HTML, React, Vue, JSON, CSV or PHP — and copy or download it.
Good dropdowns for forms
- Use codes as values. Store
US,deorEUR, not the visible label — labels change with translations, codes don’t. - Add a placeholder as a disabled first option, and make the field
requiredso users can’t submit the placeholder. - Help long lists. Put the most common choices first, group with
<optgroup>, or use a searchable<datalist>. - Set autocomplete. Country fields get
autocomplete="country"(orcountry-namewhen the value is the name) so browsers fill them in.
Where the data comes from
Country and region codes follow ISO 3166-1, languages ISO 639-1, currencies ISO 4217 and time zones the IANA database. Names are generated by your browser’s internationalization support, so they are accurate and available in dozens of languages. Phone codes follow the ITU country calling codes.
In Webflow, paste the HTML into an Embed element inside your form; the field is submitted with the form like any other. Related: HTML Table Generator, JSON to TypeScript.
