How to use the Font Subsetter
- Drop your fonts on the box.
- Choose the character sets to keep, and add any extra characters.
- Confirm your license, click Generate webfonts and test the preview.
How much can subsetting save?
It depends on the font. Fonts with many languages or symbols can shrink dramatically, while a small Latin font has less to remove. The results table shows the exact saving for each file.
What should I keep?
Keep every language your site uses, plus any symbols such as currency signs. Removed characters will appear in a fallback font.
Check your font license first
Fonts are software, and their licenses decide what you can do with them. Many commercial licenses cover desktop use only, or charge separately for web use, and some forbid converting the file at all. That can apply even when you bought the font. Open licenses such as the SIL Open Font License usually allow web use, but they have their own conditions. Read your license before you convert. devpack doesn’t verify licenses, and you’re fully responsible for how you use your fonts and the files you create.
