What is WooCommerce?
WooCommerce is a free e-commerce plugin that turns WordPress into an online store.
Signs a site uses WooCommerce
- /wp-content/plugins/woocommerce/ in file addresses. The plugin loads its styles and scripts from this folder.
- woocommerce classes on the body or products. Themes add classes such as woocommerce-page to shop pages.
- A wc-ajax parameter in requests. The cart uses this to update without reloading the page.
How to check by hand
Open a product or shop page, view the source and search for woocommerce. Check a shop page, because the home page may not load the plugin.
What can hide it
Sites that combine or rename their files can hide the folder path, but the classes on shop pages usually remain. A negative result doesn’t prove a site isn’t using WooCommerce, because the checker reads the page source and response headers, and tools loaded later by JavaScript may be missed.
