How to use the App Icon Generator

  1. Drop a square image — ideally 1024 × 1024 px PNG or an SVG.
  2. Choose the platforms, the background color (iOS icons can’t be transparent) and optional padding.
  3. Check the previews and click Download ZIP; drag the folders into Xcode and Android Studio.

What’s in the ZIP

  • iOS — AppIcon.appiconset with every iPhone and iPad size (20 to 1024 px) and a matching Contents.json. Drag it into Assets.xcassets in Xcode, replacing the existing AppIcon.
  • Android — mipmap-mdpi to mipmap-xxxhdpi folders with ic_launcher.png and ic_launcher_round.png (48–192 px), adaptive-icon foreground layers (108–432 px), the XML in mipmap-anydpi-v26 and the background color resource. Copy the folders into app/src/main/res. Plus the 512 × 512 Play Store icon.
  • Web / PWA — favicon PNGs, the 180 px Apple touch icon, 192 and 512 px manifest icons, a maskable icon and a ready-to-paste manifest snippet.

Platform rules that matter

iOS icons must not be transparent — App Store Connect rejects icons with an alpha channel — so transparent areas are filled with the background color. iOS rounds the corners itself: supply a square image, don’t round it yourself. Android adaptive icons crop the foreground to circles, squircles or rounded squares; keep the important part inside the central 66% (the safe zone) — that’s what the adaptive padding slider does.

Private by design

All resizing happens in your browser with the Canvas API; your artwork is never uploaded.

Tools that pair well with the App Icon Generator

  • Image Converter — Convert any image your browser can open — PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP or SVG — into PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF, one file or hundreds at a time.
  • Deep Link File Generator — Create the two files that let links to your website open your app — apple-app-site-association for iOS Universal Links and assetlinks.json for Android App Links — or paste existing files to check them.
  • OG Image Generator — Create a polished link-preview image for Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Slack and WhatsApp in seconds — pick a template, type your title, add a logo, then download the PNG and matching meta tags.

Frequently asked questions

What size should my source image be?
At least 1024 × 1024 px, square. An SVG gives the sharpest results at every size. Smaller images are scaled up and may look soft in the largest icons.
Why does my iOS icon have a white background?
Apple doesn’t allow transparency in app icons, so transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose. Pick a color that matches your design.
What are Android adaptive icons?
Since Android 8, launcher icons have a separate foreground and background layer that the system masks into different shapes and animates. The ZIP includes both layers and the XML that ties them together.
Do I still need every iOS size with Xcode 15?
Xcode can generate sizes from a single 1024 px icon, but the full set gives you control over small sizes and supports older deployment targets. Both work.
Can I install App Icon Generator as a web app and use it offline?
Yes. App Icon Generator is an installable web app (PWA) — installed from your browser, not downloaded from an app store. Click Install app at the top of this page in Chrome or Edge (Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS) or on Android, use Share → Add to Home Screen on iPhone and iPad, or File → Add to Dock in Safari 17+ on a Mac. It then opens in its own window with its own icon, and because it runs entirely in your browser it keeps working offline. Firefox on desktop can’t install web apps. How installing works.
