Mouse Polling Rate Test (Hz)

Move your mouse quickly in circles to measure its polling rate — how many times per second it reports its position: 125, 250, 500, 1000 Hz or more on gaming mice.

How to use the Mouse Polling Rate Test

  1. Move the pointer into the box.
  2. Move the mouse quickly in circles for a few seconds — slow movement sends fewer reports.
  3. Read the likely polling rate and the peak.

How it’s measured

The browser reports every pointer movement it receives; where supported, getCoalescedEvents() recovers the reports bundled into a single frame. Counting them per second gives the polling rate, rounded to the standard 125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 or 8000 Hz.

Why it might read lower than advertised

  • The mouse only reports while moving — move faster and keep moving.
  • Some browsers cap pointer events; Chrome and Edge report the most accurately.
  • A USB hub, Bluetooth (often 125–133 Hz) or power-saving settings can lower the rate. Set the rate in the mouse’s software.

Tools that pair well with the Mouse Polling Rate Test

  • Mouse Test — Click, scroll and move to check your mouse buttons (left, right, middle, back, forward), the scroll wheel and double-click — and catch a worn switch that double-clicks on its own.
  • Click Speed Test (CPS) — How fast can you click?
  • Refresh Rate Test — See your display’s refresh rate as your browser actually renders it — 60, 120, 144, 240 Hz or more — with live FPS, a frame-time chart and a moving block to spot stutter.
  • Trackpad Test — Check that your laptop trackpad / touchpad works: click and tap, two-finger scroll in every direction, pinch to zoom, two-finger right-click and drag.

Frequently asked questions

What polling rate is good?
1000 Hz is the standard for gaming mice; 125 Hz is typical for office and Bluetooth mice and fine for everyday use.
Does a higher polling rate matter?
It lowers input delay slightly (1 ms at 1000 Hz vs 8 ms at 125 Hz) and smooths fast movement, at the cost of a little more CPU.
Is anything uploaded or recorded?
No. Everything runs in your browser; results and settings are kept on this device only.
Can I install Mouse Polling Rate Test as a web app and use it offline?
Yes. Mouse Polling Rate Test is an installable web app (PWA) — installed from your browser, not downloaded from an app store. Click Install app at the top of this page in Chrome or Edge (Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS) or on Android, use Share → Add to Home Screen on iPhone and iPad, or File → Add to Dock in Safari 17+ on a Mac. It then opens in its own window with its own icon, and because it runs entirely in your browser it keeps working offline. Firefox on desktop can’t install web apps. How installing works.
