What’s a good reaction time?

Most people react to a visual signal in about 200–270 ms; under 200 ms is fast and under 150 ms is exceptional. Your result also includes your mouse or touchscreen’s delay and your display’s latency — a 60 Hz screen alone can add up to 16 ms — so compare scores on the same device.

Clicking before green counts as a false start and doesn’t count.

Frequently asked questions

What is the average human reaction time?
Roughly 200–270 milliseconds for a simple visual reaction like this one.
Why is my time slower on my phone?
Touchscreens and mobile browsers add input delay, so phone times are usually a little slower than with a mouse.
Is anything uploaded or recorded?
No. Everything runs in your browser; results and settings are kept on this device only.
Can I install Reaction Time Test as a web app and use it offline?
Yes. Reaction Time Test is an installable web app (PWA) — installed from your browser, not downloaded from an app store. Click Install app at the top of this page in Chrome or Edge (Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS) or on Android, use Share → Add to Home Screen on iPhone and iPad, or File → Add to Dock in Safari 17+ on a Mac. It then opens in its own window with its own icon, and because it runs entirely in your browser it keeps working offline. Firefox on desktop can’t install web apps. How installing works.
