How to use the Spacebar Counter

  1. Pick a duration.
  2. Press Space (or tap the pad) — the timer starts on the first press.
  3. Keep pressing until the time is up, then read your score.

Typical scores

Most people manage about 6–8 presses per second for 10 seconds; 10+ per second is very fast. Holding the key down doesn’t count — only separate presses do, so auto-repeat can’t inflate your score.

A key that registers twice per press or not at all can mean a hardware problem; check it with the Keyboard Tester.

Frequently asked questions

Does holding the spacebar count?
No. Only separate presses count; the keyboard’s auto-repeat is ignored.
Is my best score saved?
Yes, per duration, in this browser.
Is anything uploaded or recorded?
No. Everything runs in your browser; results and settings are kept on this device only.
Can I install Spacebar Counter as a web app and use it offline?
Yes. Spacebar Counter is an installable web app (PWA) — installed from your browser, not downloaded from an app store. Click Install app at the top of this page in Chrome or Edge (Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS) or on Android, use Share → Add to Home Screen on iPhone and iPad, or File → Add to Dock in Safari 17+ on a Mac. It then opens in its own window with its own icon, and because it runs entirely in your browser it keeps working offline. Firefox on desktop can’t install web apps. How installing works.
