How to use the Refresh Rate Test
- Open the page and wait a few seconds while it measures.
- Read the refresh rate; the chart shows the time of every frame.
- Watch the moving block — smooth motion means frames aren’t being dropped.
How it’s measured
Browsers draw in step with the display, so the tool counts frames with requestAnimationFrame and rounds the result to the nearest standard rate (60, 75, 90, 100, 120, 144, 165, 180, 240, 360 Hz).
Showing 60 Hz on a 144 Hz monitor?
- Set the refresh rate in Windows (Settings → System → Display → Advanced display) or macOS (System Settings → Displays).
- Use a cable that supports it — DisplayPort or HDMI 2.0+; some HDMI cables cap at 60 Hz.
- Laptops on battery may lower the rate to save power, and some browsers limit frame rate in power-saving mode.
