How to use the Random Team Generator

  1. Paste the names, one per line.
  2. Set how many teams you need.
  3. Click Generate; shuffle again until you’re happy, then copy the teams.

Fair, even teams

Names are shuffled with a cryptographically secure random source, then dealt into teams one at a time, so team sizes differ by at most one person. Nobody — including the organizer — can influence who ends up together.

Frequently asked questions

What if the names don’t divide evenly?
Teams differ by at most one person; the extra people go to the first teams.
Is my list saved?
Only in this browser, so it’s there next time. Nothing is uploaded.
Can I make groups of a set size instead?
Divide the number of people by the group size and enter that as the number of teams.
Can I install Random Team Generator as a web app and use it offline?
Yes. Random Team Generator is an installable web app (PWA) — installed from your browser, not downloaded from an app store. Click Install app at the top of this page in Chrome or Edge (Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS) or on Android, use Share → Add to Home Screen on iPhone and iPad, or File → Add to Dock in Safari 17+ on a Mac. It then opens in its own window with its own icon, and because it runs entirely in your browser it keeps working offline. Firefox on desktop can’t install web apps. How installing works.
