How to use the Discount Calculator
- Enter the original price.
- Tap a discount or type a percent — or switch to an amount off, like $15 off.
- Add an extra discount if a coupon applies on top of a sale.
- Add sales tax or VAT to see the price you’ll actually pay.
How to calculate a discount
Sale price = original price × (1 − discount ÷ 100). 25% off $129.99 is 129.99 × 0.75 = $97.49, so you save $32.50.
Stacked discounts don’t add up
“20% off, plus an extra 10%” is not 30% off. The second discount applies to the already reduced price: 0.8 × 0.9 = 0.72, so the total discount is 28%. The calculator shows the real combined percentage.
Sales tax and VAT
In the US, sales tax is added at checkout on the discounted price. In countries with VAT, shelf prices usually include it already — leave tax at 0 there. To take VAT out of a price, use the reverse calculation on the Percentage Calculator.
