How to use the Fraction Calculator
- Enter the first fraction (add a whole number for a mixed number like 1 ⅔).
- Choose +, −, × or ÷ and enter the second fraction.
- Read the simplified answer, the mixed number, the decimal and the steps.
- Use Decimal to fraction to turn 0.375 into ⅜.
How to work with fractions
- Add or subtract: rewrite both fractions over a common denominator, then add or subtract the numerators. ¾ + ⅔ = 9⁄12 + 8⁄12 = 17⁄12.
- Multiply: multiply the numerators and the denominators. ¾ × ⅔ = 6⁄12 = ½.
- Divide: multiply by the reciprocal of the second fraction. ¾ ÷ ⅔ = ¾ × 3⁄2 = 9⁄8.
- Simplify: divide the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor.
Mixed numbers (like 1 ⅔) are turned into improper fractions (5⁄3) first. For everyday percentages use the Percentage Calculator; for full expressions, the Scientific Calculator.
