How to use the Fuel Cost Calculator
- Pick your units.
- Enter the distance, your fuel economy and the fuel price.
- Choose one-way or round trip and how many people share the cost.
The math
Fuel used = distance ÷ MPG (or distance × L/100 km ÷ 100); cost = fuel × price. A U.S. gallon is 3.785 liters and a UK (imperial) gallon is 4.546 liters, which is why UK MPG figures look higher for the same car.
