How to use the Profit Margin Calculator
- Enter what the product costs you.
- Enter the selling price — or switch to “Price for a target margin”.
- Read profit, margin and markup.
Margin vs markup
Margin is profit as a share of the price; markup is profit as a share of the cost. Buying at $40 and selling at $65 is a $25 profit: a 38.5% margin but a 62.5% markup. To hit a target margin, price = cost ÷ (1 − margin).
